Alexandra Tanowa Tomiyama is of Ghanaian Japanese heritage. Living on both sides Africa and Asia she is inspired by both cultures which has now become her brand signature as a designer.

Educated in both cultures, Alexandra was often seen to draw cartoon figures, which transformed into Japanese Manga (comics) figures during high school and further developed into fashion figures during her university level.

In 2015 Alexandra designed for the Ghanaian actress Miss Yvonne Nelson for the 2015 BETAwards.

Early 2016 with the knowledge acquired from her degree, produced a collection which was again inspired by Japanese Comics Kuroshituji named KURO 1993, leading to another collection in the same year, inspired by elements of Ghana and Japan named

Q. T1993.

She also collaborated with Abigail Ohene Kyei in the development and design of Fabric forthe Ghanaian brand Studio 1981, retailed in Italy. A brand conceived in 2012 by Nana K.Brenu.

In 2018 January, in partnership again with Abigail Ohene Kyei owner of Tenewaa, they hosted the first edition of “The Creative Minds” themed the Pop Up Shop, hosting five other designers at Elle Lokko Accra.

Obaachan, which was a collection dedicated to her grandmother and a couple of collection including Shison and Blue Culture is now in retail outlets like Elle Lokko concept store in
Osu Accra Ghana, with wearable Kimonos stocked from February 2017.

Her new invention of the wooden ahinima during the presentation of the Obaachan collection was further transformed in collaboration with Ghanaian designer Papa Oppong.

Being appointed together with Ghanaian Artist Steve French at Mabel Brempong, as creative director has given her the opportunity to work on other brands alongside her own.

In the year 2019, as a member of the Board Of Fashion Ghana she remained as a part of the 5 finalist to participate in the Gucci Design Progamme .

Later in the year she channeled her brand to be sustainable one and still maintaining her brand aesthetics.

Alexandra continues today as a freelance designer , collaborating and further developing her creativity into wearable garments.
